I'm relatively new to Model Engineering and I'd like to meet up with some more experienced people to discuss projects, hints and tips. Even better have a few guys drop by my shed for a cuppa and a play.

You are welcome to come along to the MSMEE (Melbourne Society of Model and Experimental Engineers) club night to see if that suits you.

We have a meeting every second Friday of the month and usually have a speaker, or one of the members will do a talk on a workshop related subject. Members often bring items along for "models on the table" and there's a library for borrowing books and magazines.

Tonight is our yearly auction where members can redistribute all the stuff they thought was a good idea to buy at the time

If you do drop in come up and say hello, look for the guy wearing the weird glasses on the stage.

Hey Raymond

Both myself and the MSMEE had stands up at Bendigo on the weekend and it was great.

They did a terrific job of organising the event and I'll be going up again for the next show for sure.

+1 for MSMEE – a diverse range of interests, and a good library (for example, all issues of ME mag, AME, MEW, and a bunch of others as well as books.

-i'll be there tonight, money in pocket. (unlikely to stay there!). i'm the one with a beard and very gray hair…(actually that doesn't narrow it down a lot, but might help!)

i'm allso in the eastern suburbs.

Yes the OT Myford doesn't look quite as shiny as it does in those pictures anymore . One of these days I'll have to polish it up and make a You Tube video of it working.

You can have a look for clubs with this site if it works properly on your browser. (having a bit of a glitch myself and suspect the geeks are only letting it work with new versions' cos it was ok last year). It may not list them all but a good start and if you visit one they will point you to others.

I found Box Hill guys very friendly last year when I visited, also Diamond valley and Tullamarine made me welcome. Dates didn't fit in with Moorabin or some of the others.

Gary knowing how busy you get with tool making you won't have time to polish the old girl up and make sure its in working order. I'll gladly take the task on and drop everything else I am doing. Will 12 months be long enough to make sure its in a fit and proper order.

Oh well guess its back to slowly making my own then.

Glen Iris is a bit of a drive but I should make an attempt to get down there one night.

Any of you Melbourne guys know of a good place to buy small pieces of steel, such as 75mm square bar 50mm thick, BMS? I cant source anything like this in North Qld and was told there was "a place" in Melbourne that did mail order small quantity sales. Any ideas?

Thanks mate. i see they have a branch in Townsville too, which is much closer to me than Melbourne. Will give them a bell on Monday and see what we can do.
