Hi , I thought that those of you with a Meccano bent might like to see these pics.

My good friend Derek Waghorn – Lee to me – has been beavering away on this trike for many a year. At last, on his eigthieth birthday the wraps came off and all can be revealed.

All the 'Meccano' parts are seven times larger – sheet parts from steel and strip parts etc from glass fibre as are the nuts and bolts

Happy Birthday mate – brilliant to see it out in the open

Hope all our members enjoy it as much as I have

      Regards Ramon

          Hi Ramon

Absolutely brilliant I love it, thanks for sharing the photos and be sure to tell him it looks great though I expect he knows that already. Used to be a Meccano kid, cranes, diggers etc so seeing something like this brings back those childhood dreams of driving full size Meccano creations smiley

          Cheers

WOW ! – the enduring eccentricity of the British.

I love it – fantastic – who would have thought of creating something like this?

Ramon – please give him a big pat on the back from me.

Is that a BBC film crew for Bang goes the theory? If so any idea when it will be on?

Brilliant, briliiant and thrice brilliant! That has absolutely made my day.

Now the nitpickers can't look at a mecanno model and say it would look better without the holes

What number kit is it – I want one.

Hi Guys thanks for your comments. I know my friend will appreciate them.

Yes it was a TV crew doing a feasability shoot apparently but I guess they will be back!

I've watched this grow over the years from it's pencil sketch concept to what you see now – the work that he has put into this is just awesome – the lights alone took months to make and that top is a glass fibre moulding complete with 1200 stitches each put in individually around it's edge. Heres a 'couple' of detail pics there's more if you would like —

The steering wheel – I just love the lettering

And this is the gear change

All the distressing was carried out by Lees wife Sali – every nut and bolt

                  Regards – Ramon

I would love to see some more photos of this wonderful creation. This project has really struck a chord with many of us, probably because lots of us had Meccano sets when we were kids. I wonder if this could be called the ultimate 'Kit Car'.

                          Thanks again and best regards

Hi guys, I will of course pass on all your comments, 'Lee' has been a good friend for many years – he's the guy who lets me use his bead blaster – and I've had the real pleasure of witnessing some pretty unusual stuff emanate from his workshop through that time.

He has posted some details on a 'chopper bike' site but I thought it would be nice to put it on here as so many of us have Meccano in our background.

I took a few 'detail' pics quite a while back – I'll post three or so at a time for you …….

I'm not sure what he used for the headlight itself as at one time he was experimenting with silvering, but the rims and housing were all spun up on the lathe

This is the rear end, a bit blurred but the only one I have –

It's nice to see the interest for him – I know he will be very pleased

                                  Regards – Ramon

I just boggle at this, not just the realisation but at the level of imagination and vision to take that from paper to reality.

Yes I know exactly what you mean Neil – he's what we call in this part of the woods 'A real clever ol' sod' – a high compliment I might add.

Heres a couple of more pics – I think I made a mistake in saying that all strips were made of glass fibre – some are from steel I believe but he's such a canny guy with glass fibre its hard to tell

Those bolts are definitely 'GF' though (they're not structural just in case you are wondering)

This is the rear of the head light. Blurred again but still a viable pic. Note the 'distressing' on the bolt and square nut

There's a few more if you are still interested and not getting tired of them

                                        Regards – Ramon

                                          Hi RAmon,

I can't speak for others but I would never tire of seeing pictures of such a lovely machine. It may be 12" to the foot scale but it is real "model engineering". Modelling in reverse so to speak. I love Meccano and still have a No 10 set as well as several other sets from various eras. Congratulate your friend and his wife for such wonderful work on my behalf. That distressing of the parts is as magnificent as the rest of the 'Model'. Let us know where he has posted his pictures.

                                          Best regards,

                                          Terry

Hi Terry – you have me green with envy or rather would have done. A No 10 set was all I ever dreamed about as a youngster along no doubt with countless otherswink

Hansrudolf – I'm sorry but I don't think I can help in this instance. Since the process of posting pictures on here has changed posting them any larger appears to distort them and as you say it appears that it no longer has the facility to click on them to open them up to a larger format.

I'll get the link for you later Terry and post some more detail ones tonight

I don't know if this is the answer but it may be possible to achieve if you upload to an album first.

I posted an image in the middle of last month to an album and have now put a link to this post.  Enlargement works with this.

You should always load to the album and then insert the image.

Always leave a blank line (carriage return) after each photo or they will mess the page up and the adverts will appear over the text.

Hi Ramon, I have always been a little envious, but not maliciously, of anyone who had any Meccano when they were kids. Meccano was out of our parents price range when myself and my brothers and sisters were kids, but got to play with some occasionally when visiting one of my cousins.

Brilliant piece of work, and like Terry says the distressing magnificent and makes it all look as if it has been lovingly played with. Keep the pictures coming.

                                                      Hi Ramon,

If you right click on a picture and chose view, it comes up full size and undistorted, regardless of how the website displays it, at least in firefox.

This allows a closer look at your pics here, but they are still a wee bit small.
