Gets my vote for sure, sick of asking for someone who seems not to exist to allow us to print the magazine from the viewer.
            PDF’s all round please

Just checked my system. I’m getting the same error message using Internet Explorer 8 – strange thing is that I’m already using Abobe Flash Player version10.2

No wonder I don’t get far, I’m on IE 6, I’v tried updating it, but it won’t go, I’m running XP. If I need anything that is incompatable to my computor, I just go down to the library, about 200M from home. Ian S C

I agree with John S., PDF is a much better solution.

Yes, I get the same request to update the FlashPlayer.
I would suggest that there is something wrong with the ME 4270 issue or it’s viewer as both 4269 and 4271 load up and print Ok, 4270 wont even load up.

                        Hi
Some time ago I requested that I could download the MEW Digital Edition, when it were still a separate subscription
The answer were NO, To aviod someone selling it on E-Bay.
Well I abandoned The Digital issues do to have a copy on rental, because you have to pay everytime you want to view it and sometimes it have different issues, like the stated above.
I now scan my printed copies to have them in digital format on my laptop to read while travelling, which I do often, no plans to sell them. not now or in the future.

I don’t believe anyone who is a member of this forum would consider selling the digital issues should the be available as a pdf download.
Let’s face it, if someone were determined (and patient) enough, the current system still allows issues to be printed page by page, so if they wanted, the issue could still be downloaded and sold on ebay etc.

As the access to the digital issues is restricted to paying customers, I do not believe that there is a reasonable argument against providing a downloadable copy of the digital issue.

DC1, I know you take a lot of flak for this and it is not specifically your problem however, as some of us have found, contacting MyHobbyStore representatives by email is fruitless therefore, you are our only POC to MHS.
Can you please give them an almighty kick up the but from all ME and MEW subscribers, to sort out their act and give us what we want (and should have as a paying customer).

                          regards

If they can, then I would have thought it should be possible to issue a subscriber with one when they sign up, so only they can access their files – no?

I’m afraid this is not going to happen in the foreseeable future. This is the decision of the MHS senior management. A PDF could be printed to file and thereafter it is a free for all. Anyone might file their copy and email it out to everyone on this forum… and his brother! Why would anybody then pay for a copy?
Far-fetched, maybe, but you see their point?
It is possible to print individual pages…. painful thought it might be. Many magazines don’t even offer you that facility.

It would appear that the answer is yes.

I have just renewed my car insurance on line, and the documents were e-mailed as a pdf file.
                                This was password protected.

Whoever loaded issue 4270 dropped a ‘Cod’. I know from my own past experiences that growl as you might, it is almost impossible to get corrections made. Operations are always too busy. To operations, that is past history, and they have to load the latest magazines. Operations always take grumps and groans as personal critism.

                                      Can PDF’s be password protected?
Yes they can be password protected but it doesn’t help unless printing is also inhibited (which can be done). If printing is not inhibited you can just print to a file (in fact print to a pdf) and you’re back to square one.

While I, like many people here, would like the magazine available as a pdf (like at least a dozen other digital editions that I subscribe/have-subscribed to) I’d want the ability to print.

As far as people selling any of those magazines on eBay, it’s not a venture that’s likely to be undertaken very successfully, given that all those magazines (including MEW) are available free on the internet to those that have the wherewithal to find them. That hasn’t seemed to stop other publishers from making them available as pdf’s. Perhaps they (rightly) consider the (real) losses are insignificant compared with the actual sales. Most of the people that pirate this stuff wouldn’t have actually bought a subscription in the first place.

I used to be able to view the ‘Try for free’ issue, but not now – I just get the same error message as before.

I find that posting here can be very hit and miss because, more often than I’m happy with, you can lose the lot after clicking the Add Posting button!

…And just to prove my point, the following bold text was left out of my previous message, even though it was present when I pressed the Add Posting button.

I’m running Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 9, so nothing unusual there and zero problems on other websites.

What version of Windows and IE are you using. (When Posting, have you got compatabilty mode enabled – I found that you needed it set for IE8/9 & Win 7 64 Bit)

I am a Digital Subscriber, so that may have put a cookie on my PC. I must say that the old digital viewer was a bit hit & miss but the new one seems to be fine. (The Samples now use the new viewer) Do you have the latest version of flash installed.

P.S When making a large posting, I always copy the test to my ‘Clipboard’ (Select the text and hit CTRL/C ) before hitting Add Posting, then if it goes wrong I can always Paste it in and try again (CTRL/V)

That’s the problem with these Amish web sites and developers.

A PDF could be printed to file and thereafter it is a free for all. Anyone might file their copy and email it out to everyone on this forum…”
I am certain that .pdf files can be protected. I have the 27th edition of Machinery’s Handbook and after replacing my computer and copying over the file, the copied version of the file wouldn’t play until I had contacted the publisher for a new key.
Although I have access to the digital versions, because of low bandwidth, effectively* I don’t so being able to download a pdf or equivalent would be a vast improvement.

Unfortunately, our area – rural Ottawa – is serviced by only two ISPs and they both have the same horrible reputation.
