Markem dye

Hi all

My Markem dye is going a bit gungy and needs thinning.

Anybody kniw which is the best solvent to use.

1.1.1. Trichloroethane is the best solvent for thinning marking dye, pity it's classed as unobtanium these days!

What does the label say it contains? What does it smell of? Ethanol, methanol, acetone? Just try them all on a single drop?

Traditionally we always used methylated spirits to thin marking dye at work. No idea about the specific Markem brand but it would be worth a try with a small sample.

Methylated spirit is ethanol denatured by methanol. Added smell, and bitterment reagents, to discourage people poisoning themselves (by the methanol).
