      Hi all.

I've acquired a small lathe powered by an older model Jaguar Cub inverter (see picture) – it needs rewiring of course(!), but I don't have a manual – I'd like to see if it's possible to change the modulation frequency as although everything is working well, the motor makes a distinct whistle as it runs.

I can't find a model number anywhere on it, hence the picture in the hope someone can shed more light…

      Thanks!cub inverter.jpg

I have a PDF manual for the Jaguar VXS series inverters if you think it might be of use.

                Hi YouraT,

I too have a Jaguar Cub Inverter VC75D, I also mave a manual. What I don’t have is the confidence to wire it up! I’ve rewired a house, but I don’t want to blow the thing up… Do you have any photo’s of how you wired yours up? I would like to use a FORWARD-STOP-REVERSE switch and a speed control pot.

                Thanks, Zeek

Nothing to do with Model Engineering, but someone out there will know. Basivcally looking for ideas.

Our handicapped son lives in supported accommodation. His room is about as far from the router as it is possible to get and the wifi signal was very low and unreliable, so we had a wired connection run round the outside of the house for his computer. He now wants a birdbox with wifi camera so he can watch the birds going into the box from his window, then watch them inside preferably on his TV. Drilling holes in the wall is not allowed, and there is no outside power socket. I’ve found a setup with wifi camera and a solar panel here . Can I get some gizmo that will plug into his internet cable still allowing the computer to function, but receiving  the wifi signal from the camera?

Alternatively a camera which broadcasts to a box of tricks inside with a HDMI output which he can watch on TV, but I’ve failed to find one of those. Or even Bluetooth (whatever that is) to the computer. Or any other ideas (that should open the flood gates)

Over 20 years since I did this sort of network design, so fingers crossed this is right!

First try connecting the camera to the existing wifi.  Although the signal is poor in your son’s flat, it might be ok in the garden.  If it is, no need to buy anything.

If that fails, a wifi extender should do it, like this example.   Plug your son’s ethernet cable into it, and then connect his computer to the extended wifi network.

If you want to hardwire his computer rather than use the new wifi, an  ethernet switch is needed, plus a pair of patch cables.

That looks so old, it’s probably due to have the capacitors changed a decade ago. When you find a manual it will say which ones.

Thanks Dave, that all makes sense even to an internet neanderthal.
