Hi All

I stumbled upon this man Arvind Gupta by accident while searching the net
Here is a Scientist educator that likes making toys and a lot more……

In a word amazing.

This is an area that interests me, a good use for the CNC router and workshop, quality toys that can be made quickly at low cost and shared.

Neil a ‘proper’ link rather than a google search which doesn’t work for me would be appreciated (the 1st just just redirects to a standard search page) I presume http://www.arvindguptatoys.com/toys.html is one meant

Sorry you had trouble with my post.

I used google searches instead of direct links for a couple of reasons.

Direct links can fail at some future date due to a page being moved or deleted.
There is so much material available on the net attributed to this man, a name search will always find the latest material posted.

I am surprised the links did not work properly for you, I tested the links directly from the MEW site after posting to make sure they worked. I could have posted the search terms as well, although these days most people can read the Link and work what was used.

Looking at the TED talks, it is a big shame that the main stream rich, and target driven schools in India fail to take on his ideas. They only push out theory, and have no time to impart real creativity. At the same time I guess that their loss is a great gain for the poor schools in the villages. Having said all of this, I can recall making all the paper toys he made growing up in Mumbai,…but mostly learned by sharing with other kids, rather then part of a school curriculum. It was fun, and a great form of escapism from a difficult school life, which most Indian children suffer from, even today.

The one I liked best was the electric motor that is just a loop of wire over a magnet taped to a battery.

What struck me most about all the ideas was that they all looked like they would work without being too critical of sizes/angles etc.

The paper shrieker works too
