Making Brass side tanks

I have had my first attempt at making the side tanks for my Speedy side tanks.

I used 20 SWG brass sheet and used LBSC.s method of fabrication. After soldering the tank back in place the brass warped as it cooled. it looks like this first attempt has failed.

My questions for my next attempt are.

1, Should I use thicker brass, say 1.5mm ?

2, Should I use Boss white or other sealants around the riveted brass angle rather than solder as suggested by some experienced model makers.

any advise would be helpful as brass is Bloody expensive

What heat source were you using? a large iron can be better than a flame for jobs like this as it concentrates the heat.

Did you tin the mating surfaces first, again this helps when it comes to sweat the parts together

I used a small gas torch but used it sparingly, I gave both surfaces a good dose of flux, the soldering worked very well and gave a good joint. The problem was that free ends of brass that would lie against the boiler out line buckled as the brass cooled.

If I use thicker brass should I anneal the areas that need to take a 3/8" radius 90' bend.
