The OPs idea of using wood will do as a quick way of seeing what works and verifying useful positions but anything other than the lightest cuts will prove disastrous. Maybe with a piece of delrin as a test piece. On metal. How lucky do you feel today?

      Not very

Why not make it square as per the 250-222 tool post [if you can]?

I did wonder and its just as easy to make.

I wonder if I go back to the wider plate would be batter, ie easier to remove/slide if needed as the locating holes with not be obstructed by the tool post?

How close to the chuck can you get with that wooden block there? don't think it will pass under the chuck like the DRO does.

I'd make the riser a bit bigger dia than the wooden one so it goes out to the corners of the toolpost.

Cant see that being any different than having the compound slide on.

I think this is my final design

Not so much in that position but try it when toolpost is fitted using the righthand hole.

Ah, I think I understand now, thanks, let me have a measure and get back to you.

EDIT:  Just had a look.  The gap between to chuck and the dro is only 5mm and once the jaws are open would hit anyway.  Again something I have never had a problem with.

So going to stick with it.

Thanks for your input, again Jason
