well here’s my first project on my ml7, a machinist hammer.

I wouldn’t say it’s top notch, the shaft is a tiny bit wonky, but ITS A START.

it wasn’t taken from any particular plan, just a bit of playing around to see what I could come up with.

but by doing this project I learnt quite a bit more about how to use a metal lathe.

      cheers

      chris m…..

                Nice job Chris.

This is exactly the sort of project I was given when we started 'metalworking' lessons at school (late 60's). Simple, but usually well thought out to give a good spread of the BASICS – most of which have served me well since. Have still got many of these items today.

It easy to try & run before you walk and get de-motivated. so stick with getting things right and you will be well rewarded in the log run.

                All the best, Mike

                  Well done Chris.

For a few ideas for projects have a look on Harold Halls website: **LINK** . He used to sell books for learning to make your own shop tools but has now made them free.

Making simple tools is an excellent way of gaining familiarity with the machine, experience, confidence, and items that will be useful in the future.

Now find some more simple projects for kit that will help in the future,

If you have a 4 jaw chuck, make a second centre, ready for when you need to centre someting with just a centre pop.

                    (The Two Centres method )

But you may need to make and harden a centre punch first of mall!
