Low voltage bulbs

I run several machines all fitted with low voltage lamps either 50 or 24 volt bc bulbs ,It is now very difficult or impossible to obtain these bulbs does anybody know where to purchase bulbs or what solutions have other people come up with

There are quite a number of sellers on the well know auction site selling 24 v LED lamps with various bases.

50 v may not be quite so easy yet might be do-able using a 24 v LED lamp and a dropper resistor. Since the current will be quite low the power rating of the resistor may be quite modest.

I have a small number of 60 watt 24 volt bayonet cap bulbs – same physical size as normal household incandescent bulbs. If that's what you need, you can have them for the cost of postage (assume you are in UK?). Or pick them up if you are in the Fylde coast area.

You can buy heavy duty Industrial bulbs from most electrical factors. This includes household bulbs that we used to buy. I see no reason why lo volt bulbs would not be available too.

50V BC Bulb gave me lots of hits on google.

The old lovolite incandescent bulbs are still available, but they are expensive! have a look inside your Lovolite transformer, and you usually find a transformer that can be set via tappings to 12v 24v or 48v. there are plenty of LED lamps available in the 12V range, even if it means changing the lampholder to suit. make sure the POWER IS OFF!!

Based on my experience of 24V 50W halogen (Impossible to find locally, so bought a load, when I could) improving ventilation of the holder GREATLY extended life, (Went from eating a bulb every few weeks to can't remember when last changing one)

All that I did was to use a rat tail file to produce two diametrically opposed slots, 8mm deep in the rim of the reflector.

This is the worklight that came fitted to my Engineers ToolRoom BL12 – 24. Warco BH600 and Chester Craftsman are almost identical machines, so they, and their successors, may use a similar lamp.

The worklight on my Craftsman lathe uses standard 24 v headlamp bulbs,which I can get in my local Auto shop.

Can,t remember when I last had to replace a bulb. These lamps were flogged off by Chester at one of their "Open Days" some years ago and I bought two of them for £10. One for my lathe,one for the Mill. Good deal!.

They look like the old searchlights,but they work !
