      Hello all

Does anyon know a source of low tension coils in the UK?  I need one for an igniter fired hit ‘n’ miss engine. Hemmingway does not stock them.  I would imagine a call to one of the US engine specailists is required, but which one?

If no source is known, is it possible to use a normal car / bike / lawn mower 6v coil and just use the secondary winding (keeping the primary out of circuit)?

I’m not too sure of the circuit used but some of the opperators of hit and miss engines here use fluorescent light ballast coils, maybe worth a try.I’ll see if I can find out more.Yours IAN.S.C.

            Hello Dave,

Here in Holland many stationairy engine men use a ballast coil from an old FL armature.  I use it myself on 2 model engines. You need the old fashion coils with iron and wire, not the electronic ones. They need a battery of 12 volts for a strong spark.
I don’t  think a normal ignition coil will do the job.

            regards,  Johan.

              Thanks Ian and Johan.

Seems like I need to look for an old fashioned Fluorescent starter!
