        Hi all,

I'm trying to help my Dad value some items of my Stepmum's, who passed away recently and left them to him.

She had a leather and saddlery business and has several very old/antique machines that I'm going to list on my country's selling platform, but I'm hoping to get Dad fair prices for the machines.

I don't know anything about the industry, so would very much appreciate any wisdom please, as to the names of some items or how much they are worth etc.

I will include the information I have found out so far. (I'm aware there's no number 3. I've kept it how I have written the info down initially, to avoid confusion.)

1- British United shoe machine. Pearson Number 6. Manual. 1920's.

        2- United Carr eyelet machine/industrial press. 1950's-1960's.

        5- J.W Chase leather splitter.

6- Leather hole puncher. Belts etc. 1930's. Can be motorised.

I can offer no help other than to point you to the "Leather Museum" Walsall, West Midlands, United Kingdom. Leather work is (was ?) a local trade.

We're the wrong place really, although we love old machines

            Saddlery?

            cobblers?

Places who will give your old machines more value

If you have an old steam train or a lathe then this is the place

You could try contacting the Guild of Leather Craftsmen.

They also have an advertising page https://www.guildofleathercraftsmen.co.uk/advertise-job-vacancies at the bottom is a section about equipment.

What country are you/the machines in?

If you have a Facebook account, try visiting this group, "Singer 29K and other Cobblers", where the members are most friendly and helpful.
It's a "Private" group, so you will need to apply join it, but that should be easy.
They mainly cover US & UK but do have other readership.

What is anything "worth"? What someone is prepared to pay when you are prepared to sell. Best price comes from getting as many people as possible to who could be interested in buying to see what you are selling. Like it or not, eBay gives the widest exposure – certainly if I'm thinking that I'd be interested in acquiring a machine it's my first port of call.

Just to add – people here often comment on the silly money things are selling for on eBay, I don't recall many people saying things like "nice Myford lathe, went on eBay last week for only £500!"

One thing that may help us assist is location, that obviously makes a difference. Are you in the UK?
