Hi Mick, I have over a hundred trees in my garden ….

That's not a garden Graham, that's an estate. wink

      LMAO!

It is lovely but one of the real challenges when we moved in was the neglect by the previous owner. It wasn't wilful neglect, they didn't know. It was quite expensive the first year getting some of the trees crowned and we are looking at having one felled in the spring and the "Berlin Wall" as it has been dubbed (a long row of bloody conifers) really need to have a good lot taken off the top too.

Then of course there are the Pidgeons, they can be a bloody nuisance. Don't park your car under the big trees!

Hi, Oompa Lumpa and Jason Udall,

          Sorry for causing confusion.

I think we are at cross purposes here, I had intended to address the issue of what the fumes related to, HCl gas is definitely a gas. Perhaps I should taken more notice of the 'battery' acid.

I concur entirely with the Hydrogen evolution from H2SO4.

Sulphur to Sulfur: ask the IUPAC naming committee of a few years ago. When I read chemistry I recall the Profs insistence on using ph. It was one of his pet hates. I employ a recent chemistry graduate who wrote a report for me using the 'modern' spelling which led me to check with my information scientist, (MRSC) who confirmed how it came about. These Americans get everywhere, even into China.

Did wonder where the HCl came in.
Yes HCl is a gas at stp but not an acid..try a dry indicator…but the smallest amount of water and off you go.
The acid (like all acids) only starts doing its thing ( well apart from fluorides) in presence of water…

              Well that was exciting!
I just hope we all learned something from it.

I've seen over 100 trees in a square metre – they were sycamore seedlings!
