When I leave my computer for a period of time, apparently my login expires as I can not get into the members only areas. Under my account, my user name appears as though I am logged in.
There appears to be no easy way to relog in to the site to gain access to the members only areas which makes logging in problematical at best. This issue is very irritating to say the least.
Please allow the following:
Allow a user to remain logged in for a longer period of time of inactivity
If logged out, don’t show the user name in the my account box
Change the login status in the upper right green bar to indicate the user is logged out
Provide an easy and clearly identified mechanism to allow a user to login to the site.
Added a bit later:
I do not want to sound critical of the site, I think it is a wonderful and valuable addition to my subscriptions to ME and MEW. I do not think any other magazine site offers as much content and value as this one.
Any help/feedback on the above issues will be sincerely appreciated.
On the right hand side of the green banner at the top is a ‘logout’ button in black writing (admittedly not that easy to see).. I just click that, then log straight back in again, and access to the digital issues is restored for a while!
Mine has an annoying log in and dump problem, and it AIN’T the spam/junk safetynet programmes, doesn’t happen on other sites, perhaps magically the site admin and programmers will eventually sort the problem and we’ll all wonder what the fuss was about.
Thanks to Circlip and LADmachining for responding to my original posting. It is a comfort :< to know others are having similar issues as me.
( the emoticon above was NOT added by me but by the site.)
As an update to the login/log out problem with the digital issues, I have found that after I read one of the digital issues and try to go to the next issue of interest that I often get an error message saying I am not loged in and can’t view the digital issues. When that happens, I have been able to go to the home page and view one of the subscribers only articles. After I open the subscribers only article, I am able to gain access to the digital issues. This is done without logging out and logging back in.
When I am told I am not authorized to view the digital issue, I can also access my profile, account information, etc. This indicates I am still logged into the system.
I have tried the logout button in the upper right corner and haven’t been able to get the system to log me out. I have also tried closing internet explorer without logging out. When I re open IE to the Model Engineer site, I am still logged in.
These are some of the work arounds I have tried regarding this issue.
IE 7, Win XP Pro SP3, P4 desktop computer with not enough ram.
Hope the above information is of interest.
Regards, John
