Have you tried the PM Research globe valve? 1/4" x 40 thread available from Forrest Classics
          http://www.forest-classics.co.uk/pm_research_sw-4.htm#Globe%20Valve

or if you fancy machining your own from castings, have a look at PMR
          https://www.pmmodelengines.com/shop/pipe-fittings/globe-valve-kits/

They are easy to make up.

Ron, most globe valves have a right and wrong way round. You need to get them in the right. see here right way round for steam

I have found the valves supplied by GLR Kennions to be very good quality. **LINK**

Sometimes, after a lot of use there can be a tiny leak at the valve stem but it is a simple matter to replace the graphite string packing. You may also like to experiment with O rings.

Alternatively, you may want to try the valves sold by Bengs Modellbau. **LINK**

They are made by Winfried Niggel and are rated to 6 bar.

Can anyone please expand on the idea that a globe valve has right and wrong way around. The link given in a previous post is now dispslaying the dreaded "404 Not found" messag

Pressurised side is under the disc, so that given a reasonable shut-off , the valve spindle packing can be changed

                  safely when fully closed.

Beware with PM fittings quality very good but threads are to US standards

Hi Ron, think along the lines of.. steam moves along the pipe from the boiler, then goes UP against the bottom of the disc, which lifts & allows steam over the top of the weir & into the discharge line of the valve… think 'along – up & over – along'. I know from my time repairing valves that industrial valves have an arrow to show the flow direction cast in the body & so which way the valve should be fitted. Google 'globe valve diagrams'.

                        George.
