      … What's the problem, mechman ?

I don't see the pictures either, looking at the URL **LINK** I assume you see them as you are logged in to that web-site, hence the https.

Although from what I posted you can see them…..

It looks like the forum software won't accept or allow the URL'S to Tim's photo's. I just tried adding links using just HTTP and it still won't work. They are viewable if you right click on the little icon where the photo should appear on this page, select properties, copy the web address (URL) from there and insert it into your web browser address field.

Is it only me that's a bit bemused by the postings about not seeing the pictures from Tim? As far as I can see they were perfectly visible in Tim's original post as in-line images – no need to look up url's or anything. Baffled!

No one compaining about not being able to see the pictures has given any information on what browser and operating system they are using. I have no trouble seeing them using Firefox version 36.0.4 on a system running windows 7 pro SP1 64 bit. If i try running IE11 it does not show the pictures. (Except the one posted by mechman48 at 17:18 today)

I've just had a look on internet explorer (yuck*) and the images don't show on my computer either.Images show ok on Chrome and Firefox, so its an IE problem, one of the reasons I stopped using it.

I am using those Ikea ones on the lathe and at the Workbench.

Am trying one on the Tom Senior, that I keep in Horizontal mode, but if it wasn't for one of Ketan's guards keeping the swarf and coolant in check, the stuff would be thrown well clear of the table, so putting a light in front of the cutter is out.

Does anyone have a solution for lighting the mill please?

As an aside, the swarf produced using a slab cutter consists of razor sharp slivers, so am I taking too fine a cut?

Not used a horizontal milling machine before now?

Geoff – Always learning, but whether I remember or not is another matter altogether.

I use the Ikea lights. Very good they are too – with one small exception. I find that now I have had them for a year or so, mounted with the base horizontal, the lights start to droop as if the lamp head is too heavy to be supported by the coiled wire stem.

I have the same problem with the IKEA lights ( and others with small diameter coiled stems). I think in a workshop environment the stems become lubricated with oil spay than this reduces the friction between the coils.

I find it best to have the stem, where it leaves the base or mounting, vertical upwards rather than horizontal or downward so that the stem forms a nice arc.

I have been using the Ikea LED's on my Chester 626 mill for over a year now and fixed them, but without the large flat circular base, to a piece of angle which itself is fixed to the two threaded holes in the body where the swarf cover used to fix.

By mounting them in the vertical plane I have no problems with sagging and find that they are very versatile in being angled just where I want them on both sides of the cutter so no shadows.

Will try to add a pic soon,

                                  Best regards,

Borrowed a studio to take some pictures this week, most of the lighting was LED, including a little light I could wave around to find the best place to fill in the shadows. A zillion times better than using flash.

So impressed I've ordered a cheap 'tabletop' version 60×60 for taking shots of small items for MEW.

Got fed up with the lights drooping so bodged a fix: Super glue on the first few coils of the spiral. And now the droop is minimal. No problem with the required adjustment of the light, either.

A bit grumpy as I invested over 220 is four genuine Samsung dimmable GU10 LED bulbs. They flicker at low settings and it turns out (in the very small print with the 'how to dispose info) that they may need a compatible dimmer and could be damaged by a non-compatible dimmer. No information on what a 'compatible dimmer' is but the web suggests compatible with one dimmable LED doesn't mean compatible with the next…

Apparently the only type that can be guaranteed to work are resistive ones!

Yep, the drilling machine chuck IS throwing a shadow, so will fit a larger dia Angel Eye to the outside of existing.

Measure the angle of the dangle first to see what diameter LED will work.

Haven't tried the one on the Marlow yet.
