Has any one ( I'm there is) fitted an Angel led light to their mill and what diameter did they use. Fitting and other detail will be appreciated

I fitted a set to my Warco WM14 a couple of years back. They were ok but I eventually removed them in favour of a normal machine lamp.

To be fair a lot of people seem ok with them, but I found 1) they gave a fragmented light pattern that could make it difficult to see details properly in some circumstances and 2) the unit itself+ wiring+ DC adapter was all more clutter around the mill although I had tidied it to the best of my ability.

          Regards Mike

Not fitted an angel eye but made one on a piece of f/glass board with two rows of led's and powered by a wall wart. its done about ten years service so far (touch wood).

              John,
              Marlow Milling Machine.

I still use the two machine lamps where necessary though.
The angel eye on the drilling machine is marginal as the chuck casts shadows so am thinking of either adding or doing a new one with larger dia. angel eye.

Yes I have and okay diameter to fit column and securred with nitrile 'O' ring

Yes, I've got one fitted around my Warco WM18 spindle.

TBH, I hardly use it because it sheds an unpleasant greenish light that isn't very bright anyway. I mostly just use the two anglepoise lights I have on the bench on either side of the machine.

I've made a number of ring light based illuminators for my equipment and for quite a few others who have requested the either the 3D printed mounting or the STL file. Ring light post

A few things worth doing :-

Remove the plastic diffuser to leave just the PCB substrate and LEDs. The glue holding it in place is brittle and easily pings off. The light quality will be greatly improved.

Chose the largest diameter ring you can find – 120mm seems to be the most common.

Which ever style mounting you chose don't make the ring sit concentric with the spindle but offset it to the front of the spindle. Without this you will have a symmetric shadow when working with very short tooling.

Glue a strong magnet to the back of the in line power supply so it can be attached to the machine body out the the way.

On my 3D mounts I also stick a baking foil backing with double sided tape to increase reflectivity.

If anyone wants the 3D print STL file customised to the diameter of your spindle send me a message with the hole diameter required.

I fitted two concentrically mounted LED angel eyes to my Warco VMC mill and would echo what has already been said. The I installed them (around the spindle) could give a bit of a shadow on the workpiece, depending on the distance of the light source from the workpiece. In practice, I very rarely used them, preferring to rely on the the bendy IKEA desk light I originally fitted.

There's a couple of photos in an album and a more comprehensive video on YouTube.

I tried a toroidal "Media light" from home bargains, about 180mm OD on the mill. Quite good, but maybe a bit too large. Cheap though.

Health was the reason for absence.

Geoff – On the mend with luck.
