I am an absolute newcomer to the world of model engineering, would an ML7 or super 7 be appropriate for both model making and small replacement parts for my vintage cars

Yes either will be more than adequate.

I certainly used to use an ML7 when making/repairing parts for my father’s 1936 car.

                Hi
I used my Myford Super 7 to make 1/4 diameter brake rods fo an Austin . Left hand thread one end and Right on the other end . i had to drill a hole in the shed/ workshop wall as the rods were long. but the hole acted as a steady to stop the bar flapping around They are good lathes
