A few years back I needed to make new felt wipers for my shaper – and looked into sources of "felt".
It turned out there are a few kinds – but the general wisdom seemed to be that the sort I required was best described as "hard" felt (as opposed to the "soft" felt used by milliners for hats & other similar crafts). I cannot remember all the details now but I eventually purchased several 12" square sheets (in various thicknesses) of "oil-retaining" hard felt from a company specialising in classic car maintenance – where hard felt is used in some oil seals & bearings. It wasn't that expensive that I recall and I still have plenty of it left….
This particular felt may be just the job but I thought I'd mention that there are different kinds of 'felt' and that some may be better than others for our uses…
