lathe stand ideas pls

sorry if this is in wrong place.

am building stand for my clarke cl430 lathe.

am planning on drawers on one side and shelves on other with coolant pump in bottom.

putting flexible light at chuck end with strip light above.

splash guard and self leveling feet.

would love any more ideas and to see pics of others stands pls.

I have a Warco 1332 and it sits on a decent stand with a nice sized back splash and a good tray underneath.

What I do think are design flaws are the electric box (fuses etc) is on the back making it very hard to access unless the lathe is moved away from the wall. The other problem is that the suds reservoir is located behind a side panel, again this makes it awkward to access.

Worth a thought if you are building your own.

with reference to the drawers in your stand, I have found that a number of quite shallow drawers are preferable to less, deep ones. It saves stuff getting hidden under other stuff! I have an old office drawer set in my workshop, the drawers of which look too shallow to be of any use; but they will accept No. 2 morse tapers, turning tools and all sorts. Worth thinking about.

By the way don't use a chipboard top just because kitchen worksurfaces look so clean and smooth. They work in kitchens because there are lots of supports and even my rock cakes don't weigh 200lbs.
One of my benches has a nice 3/8 steel plate top and weighs more than the lathe. The drawer fronts are 1.5 in thick with scalloped holes for a handle. Nice '50s quality design.

Here' a rough drawing of my lathe bench. Built from 2" x 2" x 1/4" angle iron welded. It was built before I went mechanical, all the steel was cut by hand, with a hacksaw, 4 x 2 channel included. Ian S C
