      Hi chaps.

Newbie here having picked up an old small lathe. I'm hoping i will be able to do small decorative items to compliment my wood turning.

I havnt found any markings on it. It looks like an adept.

Did all the adepts have the makers name on them?

It's mounted on a frame with motor and needs a good clean and sorting out.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to find out more about it please.pxl_20211127_181802423.jpg

Looks like a Flexispeed to me.

Have you checked out the "lathes UK" website?

              I go with Flexispeed.

I have been reading through a lot of web pages trying to find it. One of which is the lathes UK sight.

The closest I found so far is the early Portass that became the adept.

If I can find the screw holes where the badge went that might confirm the identity of the lathe.

I'll have a play with it and a good clean and look over the lathe in the next few days maybe I can find some markings.

This is my Flexispeed, the remains of a Gold transfer could be seen on the front of the lathe bed adjacent to the chuck.

I think your right about it being the flexispeed.
It seems to be the early 2 speed model.

It has a 1/2 15tpi spindle and chuck as measured by my thread gauge.
Could that actually be the 1/2 bsf? at 16tpi
I havnt got a thread gauge of 16tpi.

The mount motor and pulley gearing seem a bit over the top for the lathe.
The rear shaft is floating in the bearings so the pulleys line up.
4 pulleys for the motor and 2 for the lathe.
                    1/4 inch leather drive belts.
No markings on the motor that I can find but it does work and is nice and quiet.
Rotary switch on the front of the frame and it works but only one direction.

Now to start to look for more info, get it user ready and find out how to use it.

                      Hi

I have recently acquired this small home built lathe , would it be of use to a model maker or is it for a watch maker?

it works, variable speed with foot switch, has collets

oh how do you add pictures ?

                          I've started cleaning it up.

One broken screw extracted while dismantling it.

The bearing surfaces seem in pretty good condition.

Painted bits that had paint. Looks pretty smart so far.
