A kind of submitted my entry to the "DragonBoard" contest as a joke, I suggested that the board could be used to detect dragons. Qualcomm called my bluff and sent me a board to build my project with.

So here's what I made. The IR sensor on the front triggers the webcam to take a picture, that is in turn processed by some clever software called OpenCV which determines if there are any Dragons in the image. The knight has coloured eyes that flash red when he sees a dragon. Although the competition has ended I've plans to add a servo so his arm can move.

I fail to see a connection to Model Engineering ( At 82 it might be me ! )

Hi Roy, yes the connection is tenuous but I thought it was the kind of thing that might be interest. You could of course change the configuration so that it would recognise different engines instead.

With the ever increasing use of electronics in both models and machinery control, I think this sort of thing is useful and thought inducing.

A little more info in the actual wording of the post as to what the Dragonboard Contest is (was) might have been useful.

PS: I liked this, very entertaining!

                Hi V8,

I thought I'd err on the side of brevity in-case people were not interested and thought that questions would get asked if people had interest.

Here's the details of the competition:

We’re declaring March as Maker Month at Qualcomm Developer Network, and in celebration we’re giving away a DragonBoard™ 410c development kit from Arrow Electronics, featuring the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 410 processor from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., for every day of the month. Tell us what you would make with a DragonBoard 410c for a chance to win and have your innovation featured on the Qualcomm Developer Network.

Seeing that it is in the "Related Hobbies" section of the forum that isn't too surprising smiley

It's a visual detection system that can generate an output to control things in the event it sees a recognised object.

                    I think it's you

Since the competition finished I’ve added a 3D printed Knight and a servo.

This second knight looks like hes got a much more robust set of armour than his predecessor, although i did like the head feathers and shield design of the previous.
