Well done, Neil! Nice one. What time of night were you capturing those images?

For Saturn 1:00am is best as it is very low and that's when its at its highest. Jupiter was around 11:00pm, I started as soon as was able to align the scope as it's well past opposition.

At the moment three is no true 'astronomical darkness' until late August here, so for DSOs you can only really get images between about 11:30pm and 2:30am.

By September you can start early and go to bed at a civilised time!

A rare cloudless night last night, but very humid so I just did a few hours using a 300mm camera lens and not setting up the computer for guiding.

Super images, The Universe is a subject that fascinates me like no other. Mind boggling stuff out there. For the last few nights I've been watching videos of Magnetars and Gamma ray bursts, the figures are mind numbing, and the sheer power, well…. Keep posting those imagesthumbs up

It's high tide, and the water is flowing back upstream, to the left.

One of seven images from last night, not all processed yet. Great Nebula in Orion, and friends. Easily seen even in fairly light polluted skies with the naked eye.:

Actually, it's tonight's image – the Lunar X and V (look along the terminator/edge of shadow).

These reward right-clicking and 'view image' then zooming in – loads of detail

This is one I processed to highlight the geology of the moon, rather than the topography. I want to repeat this with a full disc.

I caught a transit of Europa on Jupiter last night, surprisingly good seeing with the planet so low, so the moon is clearly visible near its shadow. Io to the left, Calisto fainter to the bottom. Ganymede is off the image beyond Io.

                                          Hi Neil

A mate who lives in Bright Victoria sent me this image. It was taken by his brother in Law while visiting with his astronomy gear. I gather it is the result of multiple exposures.

I find it amazing, I will put you in contact with the fellow stargazer If you like.

Should they really have a scope on a GEQ on the AltAz pavilion?

Hefty price for the scope? This is one of the best 14" SCTs out there and it 'only' costs £7K. I've seen Incredible pictures of Jupiter taken with one.
