This is amazing to me. It reminds me of the first wire erosion machine I saw.

plasma cutters, CNC welding, 3D printed rocket engines etc etc

Machines have taken over for mass production, but bespoke items still need skilled men

… it’s even trained a human to unload the items produced:

thus liberating another Robot to do something more useful devil

Machines took over mass production centuries ago, the sequential control of operations came later. The humble 'Pole lathe' ensured mass production of legs, Chathams block making machinery ensured a lucrative Naval contract and the Springfield rifle works didn't do badly stock making.

When Lasers first appeared, the statement used (same as Asbestos) was 'An answer looking for a problem' and lets not forget, Lasers don't ONLY cut.

              Regards Ian.

For Christmas, I got a kit of a puzzle box all laser cut from thin ply. I was totally amazed by the tech. Press fit joints that don't need glue, gears that work. It has made me re-think my opinion on those cheap 10Watt CNC lasers. 50Watt is almost practical for home use. I think it will be much longer before a practical, hobby EDM is available.

Lasers still use tubes as far as I am aware, are expensive and blow out regularly like high powered lightbulbs with a lot of use

Electronic stuff like plasma cutting seems to be more reliable, especially for heavier work

edit ..for Michael….and the monkey pushes the button

I think the 10w lasers are different tech – and they can cut 9mm ply. 50W is CO2 Tube atm.
