huh? “adjust the circle diameter by changing the spindle speed”
REALLY want to know how that works….What rpm you got that can cause relativistic effects on say 1m radius.

If the laser is wobbly, it will swing about as it rotates

ah..diode assy. swings on horizontal axis like pendulum..misbalanced thus “centifugal” force tips diode etc over.
Prefer fixed angle and change “ride height” to change ring diameter…still good idea

            Terribly old hat.
Just went way back on the HSM forum and on the 16th of April 2008 I posted the following pictures but the first one which is an overall shot of the setup is missing.
            So brief description.

Two lasers mounted on the side of the spindle on the CNC router at 45 degrees pointing towards the spindle, These are cross hair lasers with fine lines via an engraved graticule.

As you higher or lower the Z axis these two cross hairs blend together.
Please note you MUST have the Dambusters sound track on in the background.

When lined up you just move the table to get whatever in the cross hair beam.

Simples and nearly 4 years too late.

            Love that method John,

and I was humming the Dam Busters March before I reached that comment of yours!! Was the detail outlined on your posts there on HSM? I wouldn’t mind trying it, do you have a convenient link?

              Terry,

Unfortunately it’s an old post, 2008, and some of the links are broken.
The lasers were very cheap at the time, came from Dealextreme in China who I can’t speak more highly of. This is their current listing

Note here, I ran them off 5v usb line but it’s a bit high and one got hot and distorted on the plastic end so keep to 3.5 volts.

                Hi Guys,
The angled laser would naturally work but there are times when you need to play with different heights and still maintain the right diameter circle. I would show my version but can’t find the camera charger.
