Does any know of a supplier of any castings for a larger scale hit and miss I/C engine ?

I have tried to contact cooper tool and machine co in Alabama USA, who sold castings for a large ish "Gray" hit and miss engine, but my e-mail is returned as unknown,

possibly they are now out of business ,

      Are there any others ?

      Richard.

Scale is relative, do you want a large scale of a low horse power engine or large scale of a large HP engine.

1/3rd Scale of the 5HP Galloway is a good size and a nice build and available from Minicastings or Forrest Classics do them here hasa flywheels of 10.5" Doug at Minicastings also has a few others that are not listed such as the ball Hopper Monitor that was previously sold by Lone Star.

Perkins is not a bad size and quite reasonably priced, Redwing a bit smaller and a bit more costly. R&V have become hard to get but both their engines are a good size. Star and Swan are also a food size. Then there is the Economy from Engineers Emporium which is a good size, they also have the slightly smaller Senior and a "banford" Tulip style engine

Antique Engines has a list of suppliers though a few are out of date or no longer in production

Anson Engine Museum may have one of Alyn Foundry's 1/2 scale gardeners and Graham Corry may have something stashed away, I have had 3 engines from him in the last 18months all 9-10" flywheels.

I thought Alyn had gone belly up.

Just stopped trading due to Grahams poor health and the closure of the two foundries that he used. helpline has always been there for those with queries on his engines.

He had a batch of castings done last summer for a few interested parties, not sure if he will be doing any more so glad I got what I did. He is active on another model forum and that is where most of the building of his engines goes on as the members prefer making engines to chatting about water and electric suppliessmile p.

PM research still do their 1/4 scale Redwing, I picked a set of castings up from their place in upstate New York last year. Of course that might not be big enough.

I've just finished an Alyn foundry Gardner, and I've got a set of castings in stock for their Robinson 1/2 size "X" type gas engine but I fancied something larger,

The 1/3 size "Galloway" looks favorite at the moment.

                        Don't know, some handsome chap.

I'll take a photo of my X-Type against the Galloway so you can compare sizes though having looked at Ministeam last night they don't seem to have much in stock at the moment.

If you don't mind fabricating then there is this. And a anther that was in the early issues of Model Engine Builder

Although not the usual layout of a hit and miss the Mery is a good size. A Retlas or the Olds Gearless from Debolt if you could find one would be sizable too. I've also got an Alyn Sphinx under the bench which is weighty.

I've always wanted to build the Engineers Emporium "Junior" but until I stop making bits for 20 plus of its full size Lister brothers I have enough on my hands for now, my wife would love me to have a nice small engine to rally but I enjoy playing with my present collection.
