There was a lovely plantation engine on the back of ME some years ago.

          Thanks for the encouragement chaps.

hmmmm; there was an guy came round the houses in Singapore on a trike with a cane crusher on the front, pint of juice for 5 cents .smile p

Not brave, but you have to start somewhere right?
I'm still getting the little 'could you just…..' jobs so it's not a full time project.
I save the delicate tasks for days I'm not too stoned on morphine.

I like this stage, I can pick and choose jobs as I like. It's the end and all the tricky bits I've put off that seems daunting.

Got the pedestal/cylinder covers/valve and rod done.
Used the new (ish) indexer to mark out the cover holes.

Today I received the 2mm ball end mill and made a start on fluting the square lower columns…

Probably the most recognised bit, the air vessel. Still have to make the flange drilling jig.

ls 20-11-15 (1).jpgAnother week done but nothing very obvious to show for it. Lots of little 'hidden' parts.

Next step, the eccentric strap and rod. I may make the lattice 'rod' from 2mm tube, see how it looks.

eccentric sheave, straps, rod and 'forked jointy end thingy'.
I shall clean up the solder a bit more.

This is coming along very nicely. It's prompted me to dig the components of my own 'Lady S' out of storage, with a view to finally completing her .

                                  Hello everyone,

Apologies if this is not the correct forum for raising my question, but please bear with me.

Amongst my late fathers effects I have discovered a partially completed model of the Lady Stephanie beam engine. There are some machined items (air vessel, columns, beam, pedestal, valve, baseplate + others) as well as a selection of raw castings and other material. Whilst I am a qualified mechanical engineer, I'm afraid I just don't posess the appropriate set of practical skills to complete such a small and detailed model.

Rather than pack it all away under the bench, I was wondering if anyone reading this would be interested in taking it over or could recommend a good home for it.

I've no idea of desirability or possible value, but to be honest, I'd like to see it go to a good home to someone who will appreciate and actually finish it in the fullness of time.

Thanks in advance for your feedback and advice,

                                  Nick.

PS: Will post some photographs as soon as I can.

                                      Hello Nick,

I'm afraid your photo is the victim of the 'webkit-fake-url' which replaces the actual image location with a dummy one so when you post into websites they can't find the image. This may be because you are using safari or some other reason.

Haven't had much shed time over the last fortnight. I have done some small parts and made a start on the radius links, may have more pics next week.

Looks like your casting kit has more brass parts than the gun metal I had Nick.
Are you not tempted to finish it? I wondered about working in fiddly miniature too, but a set of magnifying goggles helped no end.

I've come to the (realistic) conclusion that my practical skill don't stretch this into miniature / high precision model making. I also don't want to scrap any of the castings trying to disprove this!

So, I'm going to post it in the classified section.

Pump gear drilled and tapped. It still needs some M2 Allen bolts for assembly and the flanges filed to match. Once the 3/16" bronze balls arrive I can pop them in and file the plugs flush.
