It seems that JP2 files are an 'evolution' of Jpegs but I haven't got anything that will open them.

Can anyone suggest a conversion program that won't infest me with viruses or change my search engine to Yahoo…?

While on the subject of software, I need a video editor after taking some footage of my feet, I could not see the red or green lights on the screen in the sunlight, thats my excuse anyway.

Tried a free one but could not download as the anti virus said it was dangerous.

Microsoft Movie Maker? Don't use it myself but our sprogs have used it quite extensively I believe.

Neil: Corel Paint Shop Pro, which I find easier to use than the over-rated Photoshop.

Irfanview – a great little program.

It tried to load a bunch of Amazon applets including taking over my search

And despite associating JP2 with it it said a DLL was missing and I had to download a huge load of plugins from a site that said 'follow us or the bunny gets it'…

But it does what is needed quickly and simply and it's another tool for Canon RAW files.

                    So many thanks David,

                    Neil

Have a look at MPEG STREAMCLIP … it may do all you need.

I haven't tried he Windows version, but the Mac version is very good.

Neil – I've never had issues with irfanview adding unwanted software – so sorry about that. Maybe things have changed since my last download. I always download direct from the author's site.

Ah – have just updated my Irfanview – you should have un-checked the Amazon one button option during the install (or the sub options).

Oh I caught that, while I can see this is a way of making money from 'free' products object to is the way that, if you do miss them, they can be so difficult to remove.

JPEG 2000 has been around for years, the clue is in the name. You should just be able to click on it unless you're running an old operating system without installing any other software. What OS are you using?

For any who are interested, I use Paint Shop Pro v7.04. It's an ancient program, but it does have the advantage that it will run under Linux using Wine. Which saves all the messing about trying to become used to something like The Gimp.

You could try this one free for none commercial use

                                            http://www.xnview.com/en/

Maybe this one – just free

                                            http://www.getpaint.net/index.html

Also if you rename them .jpg or even .jpeg you may well find that they open in what you have. If this works try associating jp2 to what ever viewer you use – I assume windows does allow people to set associations,

For the sake of curiosity … would you please try posting a jp2 image into an album on this forum.

I'm sure I have done this in the past, but I can't find the image … so perhaps the forum software auto-converts them to jpg

I only have third party files and I don't want to use them in a way they weren't intended to be used.

Virtually no browsers will render JP2 anyway, people will just get a box with dots in unless they have an appropriate plugin.
