My missus won't fly anymore so I leave her to select & book a self catering cottage type place so we can explore the local area & take the dog.

This time she came up trumps. Spent most of last weeks heatwave sat watching the wildlife from the patio of a beautiful oak framed cottage.

I'm not Bill Oddie, but having a Buzzard in the tree, Red Kite overhead, Herons and a pair of Kingfishers constantly hunting in the brook not 50yds away and just about every kind of garden bird feeding off the table is kind of special.

I didn't discover until Thursday that this was next door, an almost complete corn mill well hidden from view & not a single mention in any of the cottage's advertising or reviews.

My whole garden is wildlife friendly, shrubs, trees ,dark mysterious corners, the plus is a great variety of birds insects worms, flying ickeys, bees, hedgehogs, butterflies a pond with newts frogs etc, countless hours of fun watching my garden, won't win prizes but the wildlife like it, I am not a fan of front gardens that get covered in concrete etc no wonder wildlife is declining us humans drive them out of their homes

While England was sweltering last week we had a cabin on the isle of Mull. Wet and windy all week but we still managed to see white tailed eagles, hen barrier, short eared owls and, on four separate occasions, otters. Also had the pleasure of watching the fallow deer destroying the bird feeders. Nice to see young siskins which we only see on passage here in the south.

P.s. forgot to mention. Engineering content: visited Cruachan pumped storage cavern and Bonawe iron furnace on the way.
