Most folk under 50 simply won't know that Johnny Morris narrated the Thomas books. My sister has just posted a link to me of them all on YouTube.

I would particularly draw your attention to the one with Terence the caterpillar tractor:

We had that one on vinyl back in the day as I remember my kid sister (then aged 5 or so) almost wetting herself with laughter when we played it.

And the other one about Trevor the traction engine – surely a Garrett 4CD – which is worth listening to just for Johnny's imitation of a compound traction engine working….

A Clangers man is just a youngster.

I never knew Johnny Morris did that, but I can remember he presented a long-running radio series about animals, and could imitate their calls.

I am not sure what his first profession was but I've an idea he did work at London Zoo.

….. All long before space research discovered the planet with its knitted inhabitants, unusual fauna and edible minerals.

He was a "zookeeper"in his Animal Magic TV programme but it was Bristol Zoo IIRC. Wasn't an actual keeper.

He was a brilliant entertainer on Animal Magic. I didn't know he did Thomas, I must have a look at that link .

I believe he was a farm or estate manager before he was a TV star.

I also remember him as The Hot Chestnut Man telling stories, a forerunner to Jackanory.
