Hello John,
Yes I can confirm the target has been reached. For some reason JustGiving is insisting on keeping the page live until Friday but we don't need any further donations (although we have a sensible strategy to use any modest excess).
Ketan and I discussed the likely choice of trophy today; we are likely to choose one 'handmade in the UK'
The actually competition will be organised in good time and a new thread will be set up to announce it and invite nominations. The nominations will be sifted by a small group and then a voting system put in place.
We will present the trophy at the 25th National Model Engineering and Modelling Exhibition which is on 11-13 May at Doncaster Racecourse. That gives us a timetable to open nominations in January and to open the voting in March.
Nominations will be retrospective – we aren't expecting people to make things specially for the competition, rather for people to nominate things that have stood out over the previous twelve months in the magazines or on the forum.
Full rules will be shared when we open nominations. They may not be perfect first time and so we may have to tweak them over the initial years.
Issues we have to think about are things like 'what period is legible' and 'should we limit nominations to one per person'? Thoughts on these and other issues welcome, but we do reserve the right to set the rules as we see fit.
Neil
