Jaques Maurel blade tension meter.

In a previous post. Howard Lewis mentioned the above tension meter. I remember reading an article in MEW about it. I decided to look it up again and possibly make one.

I cannot find it in my copies of MEW, although I am certain that is where I read it. Looking up Jaques list of publications, there is an article in EIM about the construction. I stopped taking EIM in the early 2000’s so that could not have been the article I read, can anyone tell me if a similar article was published in MEW and if so what issue?

Conundrum solved. The article I remembered reading was by Gary Wooding, not Jaques Maurel! It appeared in MEW 319. Thanks MikeK for the interesting link.

Gary Wooding’s device (MEW 319) was very similar, if not a copy, of Jaques Maurel’s tension meter.

The original EIM article was published in June 2016

If you PM me, with an E mail address, I can forward copies of the original article, and a letter from Jacques about the device, showing the calculations.

From memory, for the “normal” 1/2 x 0.020″  4 1/2″ bandsaw blade, the correct extension is about 0.05 – 0.07 mm. Since making and using the device, I need to change blades so ararely that I have either to rely on memory, or to look up the calculation.
