I am searching for a replacement clock spring where both ends have snapped off.
The "barrel" dia is 30mm, width 2.56mm and thickness 0.22mm.
The inner attachment is via an elongated slot and the outer is bent back on itself.
Anyone got a good idea where I can get a spring from?

The photo is of a similar spring where the inner end snapped off.

thanks Martin, but drawn a blank there. My other alternative is to make my own IF I can find a supplier of spring steel 2.56mm wide x 0.22 thick and 1.6 meters long.

In the interim could you not soften the ends and remake them. You end up with less run time but it would get you going again.

              regards Martin

I think it has been done a few times now.

Could you not get a spring from one of the suppliers and modify the outer end?

Roy, neither of Martins suggested suppliers have this spring as standard section. I have asked Cousins to quote for a non standard spring.
                      2.56mm near enough 0.1"
                      0.22mm 0.009" (fairly thin stuff)

                          Niko,
lots of springs, but not nearly long enough – These are 36 hour springs I think – not that my Dutch is up to much.

you can mail them and ask what the nearist is they have. 0.22 mm will be difficult to get, normal is 0.20 and then 0.25 mm. if you have acces to a surface grinder you can easily make the width smaller altough that leaves a very sharp edge that will happily cut your fingers during assembly. niko

You could try looking at the BHI Website, they list repairers maybe there is on in your area who could supply or help obtain materials.

I've put a link to the relevant pages here:-   http://bhi.co.uk/find-a/how-to-find-a-professional/

Thanks for the link – as you say there must be someone there. I had contacted a few before, but as soon as they hear Jaeger, they think I am rich and have a Bugatti car to go with the clock and somehow an Austin7 doesn't quite cut the mustard.
