      Iron rivets

Can anyone suggest where i can get 3/32 rivets that are longer than 3/4 making a Alchin traction engine and having real problems finding them .

Any suggestions what i can do?

Perhaps I had better be selling my accumulated stock by the looks of those prices

Don’t forget there is “free postage” included in that price. It is also more than just the actual postage, there is a jiffy bag,paper/ink for lable, time to go and post it, etc.

Comprable to our other suppliers and if they did them likely to be more expensive as some have a minimum charge before postage.

Can’t recall where the 1 1/2″ Allchin design specifies these iron rivets. IIRC, the hornplate to boiler rivetting calls for 3/32″ x 1″ copper rivets and these are stocked by Reeves @ £4.80 per 100, ie much cheaper.

Though Reeves want another £4.80 delivery but still a better price.

yes if it is for fixing hornplates to the boiler use copper also easier to form without whacking the life out of the softer boiler. Sam goes for the wheels if using aluminium rims.

Its not the rivets. It’s the packaging, transporting, handling, storing, inventorying, retrieving, packing, preparing for sending and billing that costs the money on small items like that. The rivets are just an afterthought.

Hi, well if there was anyone near enough to go and get any of that size rivets, or any rivets for that matter, by the time I’d driven there and had to pay for a parking ticket, it would probably cost nearly half as much again, let alone the time spent to do it.

                      Regards Nick.
