Integrated Combi Microwave Ovens?

Please excuse the odd topic, but I feel sure someone out there can shed some light.

We need to buy a new flat bed (no turntable) Combination Microwave Oven.  For the “microwave only” function, some manufacturers only recommend the use of a glass plate sitting on the base of the oven,  while others say you can use a wire shelf.

Any idea why the different recommendations?  For the last 20 years we’ve used the wire shelf in a Bosch appliance with no ill effects.
