Information on Stanton Reversing Switch needed

Hi all i am trying to fit a Stanton switch as used by Myford/Raglan lathes to a Myford Super 7 and i cant find a wiring diagram i wondered if anyone could help me please??

I think this may be same as the Dewherst switch. If it is I can help.

The Dewherst has 8 terminals , 4 on each side. Switch is operated by 4 position lever with round knob , off , forwards, off, reverse. D shape when veiwed from the top.

I expect the switch to be a “cam” switch

made from a stack of sections

comprising of two single pole swiches that make on alternate positions

depending on the version , a link may be allready installed

linking both switches to form a single pole double throw switch

 

the net result the swich can be wired as a two pole double throw switch

you can use to swop  two of the phases on a three phase motor

or the connections to one of the windings on a single phase motor

Hi John i will print these off and thankyou very much for your help, it hasnt helped having obscure motors with no diagrams as to start/run windings etc, however i have got it up and running on a Dewhurst i have spare, (i cant really see much point in running a lathe in reverse, unless we are staking bets on how long before the chuck flies OFF). Once again many thanks, its things like this that refresh my loving the net!!

Actually a good reverse is very handy, in the right situations. I have a Newton Tesla controller on mine, and use the reverse instead of trying to get the screwcutting indicator right. The AC motor controllers are good because they have a controlled slow acceleration, so they don’t tend to make the chuck unscrew from inertia. You can go slow forward while cutting, so you don’t overrun the end, and go back fast to save time. But if course not quite as cheap as a simple switch!

Interestingly I thought it was a Santon Switch and so it is in the Myford S7 Manual.

Hi Paul ,

 just spotted an error on the last picture

 

the top diagram , in the forward direction  two of the phases are short circuited

 

to reverse your motor you can reverse the connections to any one of the windings

while the diagrams show the start winding connections being reversed

you can switch the run winding if it is easier
