      Or the Stuart name.

I built a Victoria and have the table engine kit once I get a round tuit.

I puzzled for quite a while why these engines do not bear any Stuart marks. In the end I eMailed Stuart and asked them. (The Guernsey Stuart), they didn't know either.

Then the penny dropped. They are not Stuart designed engines, but engines designed by other model engineers using Stuart bits, that Stuart then put into production.

If you read either of the third party construction manuals for these engines, it appears rather obvious.

I has twin compound steam engine and there is not "S" mark on coverplate for steam chest. But the plan was designed from Stuart and the date is from 1958.

Thanks for the information why there is not "S" on coverplate.

I thought the reason these engines don't have the S on the valve chest cover is due to the fact the steam connection is through the cover so you can't have both.

My point was rather there is no branding on these engines at all. The S50 has a steam connection on the cover plate, but thye marked the sole plate "Stuart".

                Because they're not Stuarts?

                Plenty more here

I have a 1967 Stuart Models catalogue. Looking at the illustrations the engines with an "S" on the valve chest cover are: 5a, 9, 10v & h, double 10, Those without the S are: 4? (poor picture), 7a, 8,

This is of course before the days of Victoria. I built a James Coombes table engine with the governor in the 1980's the vale chest cover is almost totally occupied by the steam inlet throttle casting.

I guess there is actually little rhyme or reason behind why some engines have the S and others do not.
