Neil, sorry to be dumping this on you. Does my sub renew on the aniversary of today 1 year after starting or 3 issues later allowing for the first 3 at £1?

If I go to the link you gave above I get a different page from the one I eventually get to using the 'subscribe' tab at the top of the forum page.

Example print issues: The latter page says total 13 issues, 3 at £1 and subsequent issues (10 implied) at 3.23. That seems to be £3 + 32.3 = £35.3 for 13 issues ending 1 year from today.
Go to subscribe and I get quarterly DD at £10.5 first 3 at £1. So do I get the 4 DDs of £10.5 total £42 or one of £3 followed by 3 of £10.5 total £34.5?

It is a real pain after hitting the 'subscribe' tab at the top of the forum to have to go to 13 different page loads to get a list of the prices of all the options and then not really know what teh actual price is. Get all the prices on one page. Then get all the bits to stack up.

I suggest the management get an elderly relative of >70 years to look at the website as it stands for no more than 5 minutes and then write down with confidence how much they must put aside from their pension per week for each product and how much each issue is costing.

      Hi Bazyle,

Thank you for your post – Neil has asked me to jump in to explain the offer that is running at the moment.

It is a Direct Debit offer so if you agree to give us £1 we will give you 3 issues of Model Engineers' Workshop in exchange for this.

If you cancel (by calling or emailing our subs team – details below) before you receive the third issue then we will not take anything else.

If however you wish to carry on subscribing then 3 months from the date the first £1 was taken, we will take £10.50 and will continue to do so every three months until you tell us that you no longer want us to.

With regards to your query regarding the price of the magazine that you are paying for, this is based on you continuing for a year after the 3 issue trial period.

We do this because it's the only way to divide it out with 13 issues in the year. There will be 3 quarters where you will receive 3 issues, and 1 quarter where you will receive 4 issues, but because people subscribe throughout the year we cannot specify which quarter you will receive your 4 issues in.

We work on the basis that you will pay £1 for your initial trial, then if you decide to continue you will pay £10.50 per quarter (£42 per year) and over that year you will receive 13 magazines, making each magazine £3.23.

I hope that that helps, and thank you for your feedback – I very much welcome any further comments you may have and am happy to look at our webpages to try and make this offer a bit clearer.

      Kind regards,

      Kate

        yes I misprinted..The offer in print was 6 for ?1 then ?2.12 each for 6..When I went online it changed to 6 for ?1 then?13.75 a quarter..thats not legal..

Since you don't seem to be able to use a pound sign from your keyboard, does that suggest that you don't live in the UK? If so, as far as I can see, none of those offers would apply to you and your points would be a bit moot anyway.

(Incidentally, for anyone who doesn't have the pound sign, it's relatively trivial to highlight/copy/paste from another nearby post that has one -plenty in this thread. If there isn't one in the thread, you can usually pick one up from the ads on the page).

I am not a subscriber as I prefer to support my local newsagents with a regular order for both magazines but sums I can do.

Surely if one gets 3 magazines for £1 and then 13 for £42 the relevant sum is 43/16 to give £2.69 per issue, reverting to £3.23 after that.

If it were my offer I would go further and say the first year consisted of the 3 magazines for £1 and three quarters at £10.50 since there is a good chance one of those quarters would be the 4 magazine one. The sum now becomes 32.50/13 which looks even batter at £2.50 per magazine.

Sorry, got my pedant head on today.

            Hi Andy,

Yes the sums are worked out on a full year's sub which is 13 issues, including 3 at £1 and the other 10 for the cost of three quarters. It's hardly possible to work it out on any other basis!

            Sceptics please note Kate's point:

You can subscribe to 3 issues for £1 an issue and if you find you don't like it, you can cancel before your get the third delivered.

Why do we do this? Because the mags are so good we know you'll be hooked after reading a few

            Neil

                Hi Andy,

You are quite the stickler for detail! smiley

We tend to do it the way that we have because the recipients are actually effectively receiving the first three issues for £1 (so 33.3p each) as a trial.

Our ad then states that they will receive all future issues for £3.23 – so it would be a bit misleading to include the three issues that they have already paid a pound for within our calculations!

Thanks for your post though and for supporting the mag!

Bazyle – You are very welcome! I hope that the explanation helped.

                Best wishes,

                Kate
