      Hi Terry

Yeah I understand your point about the tool overhang. Having switched from the carbide ones to some HSS ones I realise that the two tool carriers in the QCTP are for RH and LH tools. If I want another RH tool, unlike my pictures above, I should just swap one tool for another. The swapped tool will already be set to the correct height or can be quickly adjusted.

BTW my HSS tools are set properly !

I’ve bought both the G H  Thomas books and they are a terrific read. So much text per page they are a goldmine of information

        Hi John,

Not trying to be critical or anything, just trying to share what little I know.

The books are brilliant, even after a lifetime working in Engineering and teaching Engineering Metalwork and Design among other things, I have just learned so much from these books.  GHT was really something else.  I’ve met some really inspiring characters in my time including Prof. Heinz Wolff, who many will remember as the face (and hair ) of The Great Egg race on Beeb One in the ’70s.  He was my Engineering Professor at Uni and a great character  (he didn’t mind getting his hands dirty either), but GHT has to rank amongst the best of them.

        Just don’t stop learning. Never.

        Best regards

        Terry

Sorry John got bit muddled, I was thinking of someone else, A file rest is very handy, and easy to make. Often you just need a hex to spanner fit, not too tenths of a thou. Ian S C

Going back some way in this post, I have been using these for a fair while.

The smaller sizes are cheap enough to throw away, and do a good job. Their ground bulk twist drills are great value for money, and are very good quality, and I think you will be hard pressed to find household fixings and screws etc any cheaper. You can buy thousands of items like washers and nuts for a few squid or pence in some cases.
