I've started a support group for anyone who has been affected by the issues raised by this thread.

          It's called 'Coping With Darkness'…

4 who start their post with "I have no experience or knowledge of light bulbs but in my opinion……"

I think 5 people should be enough.

1 is standing on table and holding the bulb and 4 are turning a table around.

Unfortunately 2 additional people are usually required, one from HSE to supervise what engineers are doing and one to report on the forum what have been done.

              So we have 7.

Wait a moment… we forgot about 2 guards necessary to watch out, so electric current does not escape.

              So 9 are needed.

Well, that was good for a laff!

Bits of truth buried in there as well, we can be a pedantic lot.

At least there are  few really nasty or personal comments as seem to be the norm on some forums.

You've not mentioned the ones asking about whether Halogen or LED lights. are a valid item in the discussion.

                  Pedant alerts follow immediately after.

Or am I being more than usually dim?

                  Is this a current thread?

Plus one who notes the 'dark suction' theory of light posted earlier and compares it with the bloke who walks in from freezing weather to a warm room, radiating cold…

I can't take credit for it, but I think we have all been guilty of at least one of the 'sins' on the list at some time

On the subject of lights I just bought my daughter an air fryer.

When you switch it on the element lights up and it's so fierce it reminds me of the bit in Close Encounters where Richard Dreyfuss gets sunburn on one side of his face!

And then there's the bloke who hijacks the thread by posting about a completely unrelated hobby horse, which reminds me it's time to mention Arduinos. Or perhaps a dreadful pun.

I ran across an indignant fellow in the hardware store about a year ago, and he was ranting about the new light bulbs for sale that said "12 year life".

He said "12 years, that is crazy ! Who the heck knows what they will be doing in 12 years?".

I looked at him and said "Changing a light bulb; of course".

                                .

50 yrs ago my grandparents got this new dangled lectric. My grand mother refused ( no pun intended ) to turn it on or off and I had to change said bulb. Yer cannot beet Aladdin oil lamp and trim wick. Shocking to have to wait till late 1960’s to get lectric lite. Still, going up the garden path, late at night when it’s pi….. down to have last pi… of the day when wind blows out candle, cos no inside loo was the norm. You had it easy!!!

I remember visiting my great-grandmother in the mid eighties, and her cottage and her brother's next door were without electricity. Lighting was gas downstairs, and oil upstairs. Outside toilet at the end of the garden.

Grandad had to empty it in the “hole” cos the men with the “ honey wagon” used to spill it on the step by the front gate cos they didn’t t get a Christmas box. We were rich cos we had a proper bucket with carefully designed carrying handle that folded out of the way so you didn’t s… on it and a handle on the side to pour contents into hole.
He had to have Daily Express to read Rupert Bear and swore he never got sore bum, not like the better daily reads. I had to cut it into squares and roll up “splints” or tapers to light candle or oil lamp from the Kitchener fire which never went out. Those were the days. Today it’s called recycling but he would have got on his bike, complete with Lucas acetalyne lamp and another form of recycling when it ran out of water!!! Always said it burnt brighter.

Funny – it used up all the water and acetalyne carbide but was always empty. Where did the black light go? Ultra violet and invisible???

The other night, when it was really windy, the electric went off three times for no more than five minutes at a time over the space of around thirthy five minutes. No big deal, but our local "newspaper" saw fit to post the following headline on Facebook (and probably Twitter, etc. as well): "Devastating powercut plunges Lytham into darkness hell!"

Talk about over-reacting! There was a theory they were going for satire wink
