How is this chuck mounted?

Thanks for the comprehensive measurements. This provides all the information I need to remachine the chuck body to fit a backplate. I’d overlooked the detail regarding the projection into the chuck bore.

You might look into the possibility of slightly increasing the chuck through bore, even a 1/4″ diameter increase might be a godsend in the future.

Good point. I need to consider overall though how much it would stand opening up; for some reason the register is machined rather deep at 8mm, but smaller diameter than usual and I don’t want to lose too much metal in what’s already a light-duty chuck.

I’ve just ordered a threaded backplate from ARC and when it arrives will be able to get a better idea.
