      Hi All

Recently inherited my late father's workshop equipment and as an engineering graduate who has spent all his working life in the IT industry, now desperate to get back to making things on the lathe and mill.

Lathe is an Axminster 6230 and mill is a Sieg Super SX3 with DRO fitted

Spent the last few months working out what tools I have and have not got and bought a few items to fill some gaps.

Currently got a few Projects sat in the workshop waiting to go:

      • Several Stuart Casting Kits
      • Worden Mk 3 Tool Cutter & Grinder + Attachments
      • Red Wing Hit and Miss Engine
      • A number of Hemingway Tooling Kits
      • 2" Minnie Traction Engine Castings & Boiler (On Order)

Almost finished the Hemingway Basic Graduation tool, still to give it a polish up and grind the tool tip.

Will no doubt be asking lots of dumb questions going forward

          Welcome Nick,

Looks a nice collection of equipment & projects to be getting on with; pics are always helpful, if I can help in any way just drop me a pm, & I'm sure other members will be more than willing to help… no questions are dumb if you don't know the answer.

          George.

            Thanks George

Here's my first attempts at following plans, it is the Hemingway Basic Graduation tool. Overall it seems to of come out ok, needs tidying up and there are a few things I would do differently if I were to do again. But I'm sure that is normal wink

Note to self, need to learn how to use number stamps sad

                          Nice work, Nik!

If you are planning to sharpen End Mills, Slot Drills, or Twist Drills on the Worden, the standard advice from Hemingway, some time ago, was to make a holder for each one.

Instead, my method was to take a piece of 1" sq stel and turn an internal taper, (8 degree topslide offset) and an external 1.5mm pitch thread for ER Collets. The Closing Nut (s) came from ArcEuroTrade.

For most jobs, ER20 will suffice, upto 13mm.

Otherwise, I would have hordes of shop made collets, and nowhere to store them.

For drill sharpening, with the Hemingway accessory, I did turn the back of the nut to 31 degrees, to aid location against the main toolholder block.

You have years of pleasure ahead of you!

                          Howard

Excellent idea Howard, I shall use that idea when I get that far. Don't fancy making multiple holders for each size and already have several sets of ER collets

Looking to make a start on the Worden over the festive period.

Next on the list is the Hemingway Simple Trepaning Tool.

Can anyone tell me how I should be grinding/shaping the HSS Tool for the Graduation tool I've just made. Only got a standard 6" Bench Grinder at this point. Doesn't get mentioned in the Hemingway build notes.
