full size fiddler ie I don’t do models.

I like to play with old cars and just added a S2 landrover to the fleet. Below a favourite seen at Burghley House, Lincs DSC_0598

I still work for a living and this involves a lot of sitting on my a*** with a laptop.

Mainly I fiddle with cars, church clocks, bells (I’m a busy ringer too), machinery and machine tools. My workshop is big by ME standards and full to the brim with projects and tools. I’m not an absolute stickler and enjoy a low cost fix in preference to shiny perfection. Not to boast but in the workshop there are rather too many

Bandsaws – horizontal 8×4, 10×6 usual far eastern, Vertical Startrite 24S5, Edwards back geared ~5″, Scheppach, Midsaw Minor

lathes – 10″ Regal, 135 Schaublin, 13″ Monarch model C, and a big Don Mitchell good if you are making full size narrow gauge wheels!

Mills – Elliot Super 10, Cunliffe & Croome horizontal

      Drills – 0-1/4 J&S, 1/2 Ajax, Strands S32

Welders – oxy, mig, stick, bandsaw

presses – very big deep throat flypress, 20T hydraulic garage type

      Grinders – Myford MG9, Astra AR5 x2!

Wood – Multico 8″ planer and 12″ saw

I think this makes me a ‘collector’ and since only about 1/2 of them work, probably a collector of c**p! So based on the list I’m very interested in machine tools and making them work well.

Welcome aboard Gary, I tend to go for bigger stuff, also have an S3 with a 204 perkins in it with overdrive. Best wishes. Noel.

          Hi Gary, welcome aboard!

I’m a series 1 man myself, well, i cant afford a big one so im building a 1/6th scake kit of one. All metal and lots of tinker opportunities to add to the detail.

hello chaps, thanks for the greetings. FYI my S2 has a 200Tdi and 5 speed box with high ratio diffs so not for the purist but very usable. I also have a 107 and 88″ S1 – both in the not working category – waiting a bigger shed!

Really like the 80″ model or should it be a 13.3″ ESWB – does the cardboard means it even has scale oil leaks! I bet in a carefully posed photo it would be nearly indistinguishable from a full size – except no dents, scratches, or mud. The super nit-picker might pick up on the bolt-on hinges, but I like it a lot.

              Welcome to the Forum, Gary.

              You are well equipped.

Does the Burghley House picture mean that you are Lincolnshire or Cambridgeshire based?

I used to know and work with folk with 4.203 powered vehicles.

One was a Rover 105, which seemed to spend all its time in overdrive 2nd or 3rd around town, and another which was a Landy with high speed diffs.
