      Hi,

Just saying hello as a new member and introducing myself…

I’m just in the process of retiring due to a bit of ill health. I’m based in the UK (North Staff’s) and I’ve had my garage extended to give me a roughly square 4m length workshop which looks out onto the garden and my trees (I also do bonsai).

I’ve hobby worked with wood for years and am returning to engineering and metalwork which I haven’t done since I was in my teens.

I’ve picked up a Myford tri-lever ML7 (just needs cleaning and tidying) and have a Newton tesla motor to fit to it. I was gifted an old Colchester chipmaster lathe base which I’m ‘adjusting’ to make it more usable for the ml7 (fitting drawers, reducing waste oil trap and making sub-frame with a couple of scissor jacks and casters so I can move it round when I want to).

Just picked up a BCA jig borer and converter, which I’m really chuffed with that needs some tlc (DRO fitting?) and I’ve got a load of wall cabinets and some mft benches to make for my wood side of things…

Looking forward to it all… 😊

Happy to chat and anyone local drop me a message. 😁

      Best to you all… Nige

        Welcome to the forum Nige.

Hope your ill-heath is behind you.  I’m having a bad patch at the moment and though it’s given me more forum time, my concentration is poor and I’m extra grumpy!

Does a woodworker have to grow Bonsai trees because he makes dolls-house furniture?   There’s no limit to what Model Engineers get up to!

Hi Nige, welcome ! I hope you regain good health, you seem to have a good setup. The bonsai is for kindling not logs ? If you have questions then there will be someone on here who can answer.

            Best wishes Noel.

              Welcome to the Forum.

You seem to have a good idea of what you are about, judged by the kit that you have.

Hope that your helath improves.  You will now be away from the stress of work and deadlines (Other than those that you choose to set, mostly)

I have had two friends, who were both very ill; but they had small lathes beside their bed, so that they could continue working.  Bet that their carers were none too happy aboiut the swarf!

You may already be aware of the North Staffs Model Engineering Society in Newcastle under Lyme, based at Brampton Park

RMweb on Google, lists Model Clubs, mostly railway, in Leek and Stone among other places.

              Howard
