      Hi all,

I’ve been a model engineer since I was about 8, which is now over 55 years ago, still tinkering with old machinery. I started on steam engines (first was a Stuart 10H). The machines have grown over the years; my first lathe was a 3 1/4″ Box-Ford lathe (no, not a Boxford!). Now on a Harrison M400, a Beaver VBRP mill, an Elliott 18″ shaper and other miscellaneous stuff.

Living in Friesland, in the North of Holland.

Welcome Ian, and Seasons Greetings   I assume you are not too far from Neinoord?  I spent many happy days at the Ascension Day Steam meetings, years back.  Do they still take place?

What are you working on building now?

            Regards

            Brian B

              Hi all, thanks!

Brian, yes, they seem to – the next one is in May: https://www.modelbouw.nl/agenda/2013/internationale-stoom-en-modelbouwdagen/ – it’s a 30 minute drive from where I am.

I’m presently working on an old and very mistreated Fobco 7 Eight drill press which I dragged back from Nottingham some years ago. It’s fighting me every step of the way. I did some repairs to the table (part of the clamping flange where the table swivels had snapped off). Remade the quill handles, cleaned up the damaged teeth where someone had used the drill as a bench press. Pulleys are off, trying to get the whole head off today. Heavily built machine, absolutely no thought given to maintenance at the design stage.
