Hi I'm Julian from Snape I'm fairly new to machining done a little at college when I was 16 but that was 53yrs ago.

Do a bit of woodworking but have always wanted a small lathe, my project at the present is refining the Chinese lathe I have obtained.

Thanks for the support I have already received

Hello Julia, I wish you well with whatever other projects that you get involved in. Please keep us up to date and you know where to come for any advice.

Try getting touch with your local club in preparation for later in the year as they may be active anyway during lockdown with regualr oom calls and newsletters as we are in both my clubs, St Albans and Exeter.

              Welcome!

Yes, find a club, as local as possible, and join.

take care over what "Refinements" you make. By all means make / add accessories, (Saddle or Cross Slide lock, Leadscrew handwheel etc ) But be careful what you dismember as part of the "improvements".

If you are not sure, seek advice. Turning the wrong screw can cause you an awful lot of grief. You don't want to change a reasonably accurate machine tool into an expensive door stop.

There are plenty of folk on here, and writing in MEW who HAVE made improvements to their Chinese lathes.

If in any doubt, seek advice.

              Good luck and enjoy yourself!

              Howard
