Hi everybody, having just retired I treated myself to a mini lathe and mini mill from SPG Tools. I used to use my fathers Myford super 7 long bed to make a Tich, sadly no longer have it or room for a super 7 hence the mini tools.

Im looking at building the M E Beam engine as my main project if I find the m e articles on the build.

      Regards

      Roger

          Hello Roger

Here's a link to an online ME index: http://www.groundlevel.demon.co.uk/me_index.html

The beam engine was revised a few times, so make sure you find the description that matches your castings.

You will need to find someone with a lathe of greater centre height to do the flywheel.

            Hi Neil,

Thanks, I'm probably buying the castings from Reeves, mainly because I haven't seen them elsewhere, not sure about the gears though, seem rather expensive!!

Thanks for the link, I guess I'll load and merge them and do a search and see what comes up.

I have options for the flywheel as there is a club in Hereford.

            Regards

            Roger

              Welcome aboard!

You will learns lots on here, about all sorts of things.

If it is not too far to drive, have you thought of joining the Hereford Society?

They are a friendly crowd, and will be very helpful, I am sure.

I am not a member and so have no axe to grind here, since I live in East Anglia. Only know them from visiting when volunteering at The WaterWorks Museum, which is next door.

                Thanks Howard,

                Good to be aboard

Hereford is 15 miles away so will be paying them a visit with a view to making it a long term relationship.

Going to be a busy retirement, no time for the SWIMBO list

                Regards

                Roger

Hello Roger and welcome to the forum!

I live in Hereford and plan to join the Hereford crew shortly. In the meantime I have a larger lathe in a workshop you are more than welcome to use when you progress in your project. The doors are always open and the kettle is always on! PM me if you are passing Hereford.

                  Regards,

                  Craig

Thanks Craig, will be ringing Wally tonight to see what days/evenings they meet.

                    Will keep in touch

                    Regards

                    Roger
