        Hello all,

new member Mike here entering week ten of isolation! Actually, it's not too bad. I can work from home and am saving 2.5 hours a day in the car.

My workshop is the end of a two car garage and after years of neglect it is slowly coming back to being organised. I just took delivery of a Warco GH1236 lathe (the jury is still out on that – I'll let you know when I've given it a proper try). This will replace my Chester DBV8S lathe. I also have an IXL former treadle lathe in VGC which I am motorising with a three phase motor and a VFD. My mill is an Axminster version of the RF30 and I have an assortment of welding kit too including AC TIG.

My projects usually have an electronic element to them, like the 'perpetual' pendulum I last built. Future projects include:

        • Finishing an Elmer's Mill Engine
        • Making a hardwood cased LED lamp in a vintage style
        • Making a barograph
        • Making a slotted attachment

I've got plenty more ideas but I must learn to finish one before starting another.

Anyway, I look forward to hearing from those with similar interests or who live in the SP postcode area.

        keep well everyone!!

        Mike

Hello Mike and welcome to this excellent forum. I'm afraid that I'm a long way from Postcode SP ( I'm in DE which is Derbyshire) but I'm sure someone who is closer to you will be along soon.

That's an interesting list of projects, you must let us know how you get on with them and, any questions, well, you know where to come,

          Brian

            Welcome Mike,

Have also just recently taken delivery of a GH1230, not done any work on it yet, be interested in your opinions. One recommendation is not to try to drain the headstock oil via the drain plug.Your experience may differ but I found that despite all precautions the oil went everywhere. I changed tack and took off the top-cover and siphoned off all the old oil, finishing up with vacuuming the last dregs out.
What did you think of the 'user manual' ! ? I found a good manual with the PrecisionMatthews GH1236 at https://www.precisionmatthews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/PM-1236-v4-1-2017-indd.pdf
Also a series of unpacking/assembly you-tube videos from PrimaDilna

Hope that helps, I am also a bit far from S.Wilts here in S.W France

I'm an SP8! North Dorset near Shaftesbury. However my Model Engineering Society is BA13 4LY, at Westbury.

nice to see another Model Engineer in the area.
