        Hi all

I have a healthy interest in model engineering, and have just acquired a Scope bar bed lathe, I stripped it down into manageable bits to get it home, weighs in excess of 440 lbs. Really pleased with the quality of it, does anyone have instruction book or any spares that they no longer need?

I also have a Raglan lathe and an old but useful Maho milling machine.

        regards

        Pete

Hello Peter and welcome from Mansfield, so not too far from you maybe.

There is a Scope machine on **LINK** at the moment but they only have a reproduction catalogue, not a manual.

If the Scope for sale had been 1" inch bigger in both directions, I would have been VERY tempted.

Please keep us updated on progress with it.

          Brian

            Hi Pete,

Welcome to the forum, never heard of a Scope lathe before, an interesting looking machine.

What part of Lincs are you, I am near Skegness.

              Hi Pete,

Welcome along, plenty of help and advice here not to mention a good bunch of mates to chat with.

Looks a useful little machine, it will do some good work.

What raglan lathe do you have? I have a soft spot for them myself having had a 5 inch, loughborough and still have a vertical mill.

              Best regards Mick

Wow, that is some weight for a relatively small lathe! Does the base account for a good part of it? It appears, from lathesdotco that it was a precision piece of kit when made. Hope it cleans up well and can be returned to near original spec.

What do you call mid-Lincs? I’m definitely in south Lincs – virtually on the county boundary.

I’m like Mick, but still have a Raglan 5” and the mill. Your ‘old’ mill appears to be a quality piece of kit, too.

I rather like that tailstock on the Scope lathe, Pete

Please do let us know how well it works in practice.

Mid Lincs must be somewhere near Horncastle looking at Google Maps.

                          Hi guys

Thanks for the comments, I am just south east of Sleaford. I have both a Raglan Little John mk 2 and the 5". I have been cleaning up a few bits of the Scope lathe this evening, what is evident is that this must have been quite a costly machine when new, but then from a firm that made instruments it was built to a quality not a cost. some of the castings are quite complex and there are some very nice features. Will try and get some photo's for you all.

                          Regards

                          Pete
