Hi now my workshop is built hopefully I’ll get to use it wife depending!
I’ve just purchased a warco wm18 mill and I’ve got plans to buy a wm250 lathe as well.

When I was at the London model engineering exhibition I brought plans for a 2 inch fowler traction engine. I was looking to make a start on the boiler however this could be a while away yet. I can see it says it’s 4.5 inch diameter by 12 5/8 inch long. I can’t see the thickness of the main tube. Maybe a quick phone call to plastow (helps there only down the road!).

      Regards
      Phil

Welcome Phil and all the best with the Fowler.

I don't know how available 4 1/2" tube is but you could always roll it from flat sheet with a stiffening strip inside the join, but make sure that your boiler inspector is happy with the amounts of overlap first.

Hi thanks for your quick reply’s.

I’m based near portesham so not too far from either of you two!

with regards to 4 1/2" tube I can get it for a price in 10 SWG ( about £90 if memory serves). however according to the drawing i should remove 3 thou from the i.d would it be worth doing this or leave it as 10 SWG?

Hi fellow Dorset folk and welcome to the forum Phil.

I have met Martin but not Mick so far. I'm Puddletown and retired so around most days.

Would be good to meet up at some point as I do not belong to W&PMES (if it is still going). PM me if you fancy meeting up for a chat / dropping in for a cuppa.

                    Regards

                    John

Times like this make me wish we still had our caravan at Bowleaze Cove so I could join in! Welcome Phil.

I used to go to the Pontins Rivera holiday camp at Bowleaze cove, many times with my parents. I believe the building still stands. Happy memories.

No leave it as the full 0.128"

I don't know when the drawings were amended last but worth letting your boiler inspector cast his eye over them before buying and cutting any metal just to make sure he is happy with everything.
